Beer analysis
Beer testing laboratories in the brewing industry depend not only on chemical but also on microbiological beer analysis to guarantee highest product quality. Bacteria have the potential to alter the quality of beer in different ways. Depending on the type of beer-spoilage organism that is present in the product, beer contaminations can be recognized by unwanted turbidity, pH changes, undesired changes of the flavor and protein flocculation. If beer analysis is carried out by time-consuming classical microbiological detection methods, the presence of beer-spoilage bacteria is not detected in time for countermeasures. This often results in a loss of whole batches of beer. The foodproof® Beer Screening Kit is designed for rapid, comprehensive and specific beer analysis, detecting all four obligatory beer-spoiling genera Megasphaera, Lactobacillus, Pediococcus and Pectinatus.
This beer test is based on real-time PCR technology in order to minimize contamination risks through a reduction of work steps and to overcome time-consuming and unspecific classical microbiological analyses. The foodproof® Beer Screening Kit is a ready-to-use method of beer analysis that is able to detect 30 species and subspecies of the most troublesome bacteria in a rapid, sensitive and specific test. Furthermore, the foodproof® Beer Screening Kit’s LightCycler® technology (Roche Diagnostics) makes it possible to easily identify five of the most important beer-spoiling species.
