Cronobacter detection

The foodproof® Enterobacteriaceae plus E. sakazakii Detection Kit developed and produced by BIOTECON Diagnostics is a combined Enterobacteriaceae and Cronobacter detection method for the dairy industry. In Regulation (EC) 2073/2005, the European Commission states that Salmonella and Cronobacter (previously Enterobacter sakazakii) are the microorganisms of greatest concern in infant formulae, formulae for special medical purposes and follow-on formulae. Thus, reliable methods of dairy testing are required as the presence of these food pathogens constitutes a considerable risk when conditions allow growth of the bacteria. Sensitive and specific Cronobacter detection is particularly relevant because the genus is causing sudden infant death syndrome.

Enterobacteriaceae, which are detected more frequently than Cronobacter (E. sakazakii) or Salmonella, serve as an indicator for risk. Conventional microbiological methods are commonly used to detect Enterobacteriaceae. Often, these classical methods of food analysis are time-consuming and they often go along with insufficient accuracy and higher contamination risks. The foodproof® Enterobacteriaceae plus E. sakazakii Detection Kit provides quick and sensitive screening for indicator organisms belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae as well as highly specific and comprehensive Cronobacter detection in just one kit. It is based on real-time PCR, which is a very easy-to-handle technology that does not require molecular biological skills and which minimizes the risk of cross-contamination in the lab.

For customers that are only interested in Cronobacter detection with no simultaneous detection of Enterobacteriaceae, BIOTECON Diagnostics offers the foodproof® E. sakazakii Detection Kit.
